A new Division of Exploratory Studies and seven departments across humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and the arts — grounded in Christian values.
The Division of Exploratory Studies is a newly established division launching in the 2027 academic year, with a central focus on fostering students' ability to design their own academic paths and develop career competencies through self-directed learning.
The curriculum is structured around three pillars: (1) General Education — 38 credits including required courses such as the Major Exploration Seminar; (2) Major — credits earned through each department's course requirements, including 6 contact hours of foundational major coursework; and (3) Co-curricular Activities — non-classroom programs offered by the Division to support school adjustment and career exploration.
During the first year, students are free to explore at least 6 credits of foundational major courses offered by all departments (except Nursing). From the second year onward, students may freely choose a primary major from Theology, Social Welfare, Counseling Psychology, Business Administration, Food and Nutrition, Contemporary Music, and more — regardless of academic track.
To further promote interdisciplinary exploration, the Division operates a mandatory multiple-major policy — students must complete one or more double majors or micro-majors. The experiences gained through this exploratory journey cultivate broad academic understanding, the capacity for self-directed future planning, and the courage and joy to live a fulfilling life.

With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rapid transformation of education, the world is becoming an increasingly interconnected global community. In response to these changes, the Institute of Liberal Education at Gangseo University aims to cultivate "GS Talent who put Christian values into practice" and foster well-rounded individuals with broad knowledge, a strong sense of community, and a spirit of service. To achieve these goals, the Institute offers a variety of competency-based curricular and extracurricular programs.
