Gangseo University was founded in 1958 by American missionaries with the purpose of training leaders for the Korean church and society in the era of Asia.
The Department of Theology is grounded in the theological motto of the 'Restoration Movement' — the conviction that all churches should return to the New Testament church and unite. The Restoration Movement is a fundamental reform movement centred on Scripture, aimed at restoring the biblical church and healing the divisions within Christianity.
The department pursues both the romance of university life and the truth of scholarship within a family-like atmosphere. Through systematic exploration of biblical, historical, and practical theology grounded in the spirit of the Church of Christ, the department trains ministers and missionaries who proclaim the Kingdom of God both at home and abroad, as well as Christian leaders who serve the nation and humanity.
The department also encourages double majors to broaden the scope of ministry, and takes an active interest in training sports ministry leaders in activities such as soccer. In addition, the department expands international exchanges with many sister universities of the Church of Christ around the world, opening pathways for students to participate in exchange programs and study abroad.
Four undergraduate admission rounds for international students run from September 2026.
